The world is in the cusp of an advanced technological era, with advances in all the different technological fields happening regularly, the computer technology field in particular. While it is true that most of the people in modern society know about and even make use of computers, only some of them know the ins and outs of the machine; let alone what specific terms and uses each element that a computer has.

First is the most common computer term out there: PC. PCs or personal computers are basically that piece of technology that makes up a system of software and hardware. This computer can be used in a multitude of important ways, for instance data encoding and viewing, going into the World Wide Web, as well as for storing all your information such as documents, text files, pictures, audio and videos.

Way back in the day, the PC was a huge, rigid and bulky thing placed on the floor of a large room. The modern times brought about a smaller version of this machine which can easily fit on any flat surface, such as a desk; hence the term desktop computer.

However, contrary to popular belief, PCs are not just desktops. They are also those even more compact yet equally capable machines that are infinitely smaller and more movable than previous older models of the PCs.

Examples of these mobile computers are the laptops and notebooks, which are basically smaller machines that owners can bring with them virtually anywhere they want. At present, computer manufacturers and designers are coming up with even smaller machines that are just as efficient despite being smaller than other machines.

People are also confused with the computer term servers. This is understandable since the term servers have a lot of meanings. First is the file server, a computer system that is linked to other machines through the use of a network. What the file server does is it permits users of the other machines to store and access data into the machine wherever they are.

On the other hand, network servers are machines that are designed to process and also to deliver information to the other connected computers through the use of a local network scheme or through the use of an internet connection. These network servers are also capable of dealing with the probable massive user load through its processing, memory and storage configurations. The web server and proxy server are common kinds of a network server.

Lastly, you have the business server, the machine that is specially designed to cater to business purposes. These computers feature links to printers, fax machines, mobile support features, restore options, remote connectivity and business intranet.

Did you know Lee Martin has been in the information technology industry since PCS were in homes. Lee is works on servers and server rooms to find efficiencies in established networks.

By now we should all have a fairly good idea about Microsoft Excel VBA training. Spreadsheets can be created in Microsoft excel which is one of the computer applications and just recently an addition was added to Excel enabling one to create macros. VBA has given a completely new functionality to the way spreadsheets use to be done through the implementing visual basic application (VBA).

Included with the Microsoft Excel 2007 software is the VBA program. For those that absolutely no idea on how to use VBA there are now Microsoft Excel VBA training tutorials which are offered online which are easy to follow and will show you how you can create an electronic spreadsheet in no time. Once you have the knowhow you will be able to produce far more work and have some time off.

Many businesses and finance companies are using this application extensively and Microsoft Excel is gaining popularity and has given spreadsheets a whole new meaning in that it has becomes a strong programming platform. You will find that there are basic similarities like VB and CC in the Excel applications and by applying this technique you could find yourself an excellent job with an excellent salary.

Once you have completed the training and you now can effectively work the program you can start to create and design different applications for your employer or for your own business and there are so many possibilities but it will depend entirely on you where you want to study further because Excel allows you to use advanced languages like VB as well as codes can be added.

Microsoft Excel VBA training comprises of ten lessons for beginners and is sectioned off individually as well as their being advanced lessons for those who would like to pursue further lessons. The first and foremost thing Excel will teach you is how to build a macro and then you will go onto modifying and testing as well as you will also learn how to make any necessary changes to the macro.

You will be taught to open workbooks showing you how to add user forms and modules in the second part and the third part you will then be taught how to name the additions you did in lesson two. Part four you will start to write and test codes and five you will design a macro yourself. By now you will have already learned the simple basics of VBA.

That was not too difficult was it? Lesson six shows you step by step how to test the macro which you have developed in lesson five and also shows you how to do corrections and re-runs. Lesson seven is when you start to use the Excel macro recorder which also writes your codes automatically then lesson eight teaches you to modify macros in VBA and then you will learn VBA protection and security in lesson nine where lesson ten takes you through VBA events.

On full completion of your ten lessons you will be able to use loop macros allowing you to work with the different ranges of data and format the VBA code as well as being able to transfer a macro to your workbook. Only once you have taken the first step and completed your Microsoft Excel VBA training sessions will you realize what a remarkable tool this is. Start training as soon as possible as you have nothing to lose but a fortune to gain.

The Magic Wand is one of three tools in Photoshop which are dedicated to making selections. When I run courses on Photoshop, tools like the magic wand and the clone tools are usually the ones which everyone finds the easiest to start using because they give such immediate results. The Magic Wand works by selecting colours within the image adjacent and similar to any pixel that you click on. Pixels of dissimilar colour act as barriers to selection and so the selection ripples outwards from the point you click on.

Naturally, it’s quite rare to get a “hole in one” when you are using the magic wand to make selections. Typically, you will select part of the area that you want and you will then need to add and subtract from the selection, perhaps switching to the other selection tools from time to time. Photoshop offers you two ways of modifying a selection: you can either use modifier keys on you keyboard or activate the modifier icons on the options panel normally displayed below your menu bar.

To subtract from the selection, hold down the Alt key and click on the part of the selection which you wish to deselect. To add to a selection, hold down the Shift key while clicking with the Magic Wand on a part of the image which is not yet selected. The selection modifier icons are situated on the left of the options panel at the Photoshop interface. There are four of them: new selection, add to selection, subtract from selection and select intersection. These icons effectively allow you to change selection mode on a permanent basis. Thus, for example, you could click on the second of the four icons when using the Magic Wand and click continually on different parts of a subject until it was completely selected.

Sometimes, you can benefit from the Magic Wand’s ability to select areas of uniform colour even if your subject does not contain uniform areas of colour. Say, for example, you want to select a subject against a uniform background such as a wall or the sky, a simple trick is to use the magic wand to select the background and then invert the selection by choosing Select – Inverse. A slight variation on this technique is to make a rough selection which completely encloses the subject as well some of the background and then to use the Magic Wand in subtract mode to remove the background from the selection.

Sometimes, you will find that the Magic Wand either selects too many or too few pixels for your purposes. The number of pixels which the Magic Wand selects when you click on part of the image can be controlled by changing a setting called tolerance. Tolerance determines how far a pixel can vary from the pixel that you click on and still be included in the selection. The default tolerance is 32 and the maximum is 255.

Adobe Photoshop CS4 provides us with a great tool for getting an overview of the tonal range of an image: the Histogram panel (Window - Histogram). The histogram is basically a chart which shows how many pixels are present at each luminosity value, with dark pixels on the left and lighter pixels on the right. If no selection is made, the histogram reflects all the pixels in the image. It is also possible to select just part of an image and use the histogram to examine the distribution of pixels just within the selected area.

by David James

Adobe Photoshop CS4 provides us with a great tool for getting an overview of the tonal range of an image: the Histogram panel (Window – Histogram). If the image consists of multiple layers, Photoshop displays a pop-up menu which allows you to choose either “Entire Image” or “Selected Layer” to determine which pixels are included in the output shown in the histogram.

Many photographs shot in medium lighting and containing a variety of colours will have a bell-shaped curve with the most pixels in the middle of the histogram and the number of pixels gradually tailing off in the lighter area to the left and right.

The great thing about photography is that it can feature any number of subjects, be shot under different lighting conditions and have different artistic aims. Thus, for example, if an image deliberately has a lot of white: say a white sofa against a white wall, the histogram will have a peak on the left with pixels tailing off in the middle and right. In the context of this image, the skewed shape of the histogram is perfectly healthy. Similarly, if you look at the histogram of a photograph shot at night, don’t be surprised to see a very lopsided chart with most of the pixels on the right… So how do you use the histogram to spot tonal problems in an image?

One of the most important defects which can be detected by examining the histogram is whether the image lacks contrast. Images that lack contrast have a histogram where the number of pixels tails off to zero or close to zero in the brightest and darkest parts of the image. Such images tend to have a dull, muddy appearance.

The quickest way to correct the problem of an image that lacks contrast is to use the Levels command. Choose Image – Adjustments – Levels and, in the Levels dialog, drag the right triangle over to the right to the position where the pixel distribution falls to nothing. Next, drag the left triangle which represents the white point of the image over to the right to where the pixels disappear. When you click OK, you will notice that the image has a lot more contrast and sharpness.

In ASP.NET version 1, the main control for displaying databound content on a web page was the DataGrid. In the current release of ASP.NET, version 3.5, the DataGrid is conspicuously absent from the Toolbox in Visual Web Developer. In fact, although the DataGrid can still be used in ASP.NET pages and will work fine, it is now deprecated. The good news is that there is a good choice of more powerful new controls which have taken its place. Four of these controls (GridView, DataList, Repeater and List View) are suitable for displaying multiple records from a data source and then there are another two (FormView and DetailsView) which are used to display only one record at a time.

Perhaps the most widely-used of ASP.NET’s DataBound controls is the GridView. It displays data items in an automatically-generated table and has a rich set of easily-configurable options. Options include the ability to customize columns and to include custom content in columns such as images or any other relevant HTML column. Command columns can also be added containing links which will enable the user to edit and delete records. The control also supports paging and sorting.

The DataList is another control that automatically creates an HTML table to act as a container for its output. However, unlike the GridView control, it allows the display of more than one record per row using its RepeatColumns property. The DataList is also template-driven, requiring the use of an ItemTemplate containing dynamic data. The elements placed inside the ItemTemplate are rendered once for each item in the bound data.

The Repeater Control also relies on ItemTemplate elements for formatting its output. However, since it does not automatically create an HTML table, the Repeater offers considerable flexibility of layout. Output can be rendered as paragraphs, as a series of DIV elements, an ordered list, an unordered list or a customized table.

The ListView control, introduced with ASP.NET 3.5, also uses templates for displaying its output. However, it is far more sophisticated, allowing the use of a variety of templates, for example: a LayoutTemplate for specifying the overall container for the data; an ItemTemplate for specifying the rendering of each item of data; an ItemSeparator template, used to specify the content displayed between items of data; and so on. The ListView control also supports paging, sorting and editing records as well as the creation of new records.

ASP.NET 3.5 features two controls designed to display single items of data: the FormView and the DetailsView. The FormView resembles the ListView control, in that it is entirely template driven. The other single record data bound control, the DetailsView, resembles the GridView in that it displays its output in an automatically-generated HTML table. Both the FormView and DetailsView controls support paging and sorting and allow you to edit and delete records as well as adding new ones.
