When you have to finish an important task on a running program and your computer starts hanging up or you’re chatting with a friend over Skype and it keeps breaking up even if your Internet connection is totally fine, it does really annoy you, doesn’t it? Here are several PC maintenance tricks you can do to speed up a slow PC.
Keep your trash bin unfilled. If you continue erasing files from your drive, you know where they go immediately. With these files being kept in the trash bin means it still eats up space as they have just been moved to a temporary location that you can still restore even after deletion. So keep it empty and clean after checking its content just in case you erased important files by mistake.
Every now and then, look into all your installed applications and clean it out of all the ones you rarely use or no longer need. It needs correct deletion to completely get rid of these applications in your computer by going to your Control Panel. Click on “Add or Remove Program” or “Programs and Features” icon and remove it from there. You can likewise see from there all the unused programs you’ve been maintaining.
Schedule a defragmentation time on all your hard drive partitions. This may take a while to finish, depending on the size of your drives, so be patient as it is worthwhile in the long run. If you’re a heavy computer user, defrag your PC once a week. If it is not possible, then just make sure that you perform a monthly PC upkeep such as defragment.
After defragging your computer, run an “Error Checking” on all your drives as well. It is the same process, just choose “Error Checking” instead of “Defragment” and allow this tool to scan your drives and look for corrupted or damaged files that decelerate the speed of your computer.
If you multitask and use programs all at the same time and you’ve already done all these steps but still it’s not sufficient, it’s time to upgrade and improve memory to boost the total performance of your computer system. Nevertheless, unlike the other solutions, this will cost you as you would have to spend cash for a new equipment. But the improvement this will offer is certainly worth the cash.
