This external hard drive is a lot smaller than you’d probably expect. In the case of noise it is deadly silent !. You will in all probability touch it to convince yourself that it is running once you first turn it on. It’s not too heavy either. The indicator light is placed at the back, which is a very wise decision. people can find those LED’s irritating, notably at night.

You will find despite copying data to it for say an hour it becomes only slightly warm although some units get decidedly hot !.

A very good model for beginners or pros alike.

Always remember that Companies like Iomega, LaCie, Fantom and others are packagers, not external harddrive manufacturers. There are just a few external harddrive manufacturers and all of them produce good products.

This unit has a Seagate Barracuda drives installed which is An excellent device. At this time, the drives themselves from some sources cost only a few dollars less than the iomega unit, so you are getting the external housing for just a few dollars.

The housing has a power switch, very good at a time when other manufacturers are getting rid of such “frills” and a white activity light on the side. Because the housing has no fan, there is no fan noise. The noise from the drive itself should be imperceptible. (If it’s not, return the unit immediately.)The housing remains cool to the touch in use. The unit size is nice and a plastic base is included for those who like a vertical mounting. A power supply and USB cable are included in the package. The drive comes NTFS formatted and, for use with an Apple Macintosh, must be reformatted.

Overall this external hard drive is very good value.
